There are stark differences between democracy and communism. A democratic government supports the belief that everyone has an equal right and say in matters of the state. Communism is a theory or system of social organization in which all wealth and property are owned by the state. Communists believe that work and profits should be equally distributed. The ideologies are virtual polar opposites as it pertains to the political system, economy, and the role of government. The chart below contrasts the two types of governments.
